Marcelo Former Footbridge

The construction of Camargo Corrêa’s new headquarters highlights the pedestrian overpass spanning Avenida Juscelino Kubitschek, making its revitalization essential in light of the new foot traffic the complex will generate. In addition to installing an urban elevator to comply with Universal Mobility standards, a staircase was proposed to replace the former ramp, which proved unsuitable for the limited site where it had been installed. The ramp forced users to access the overpass via a path concealed from sidewalk view, poorly lit, with low headroom, lacking egress conditions, and compromising safety.

Enhancing circulation within the area, the ensemble is completed by a passage connecting Avenida Juscelino Kubitschek to Rua Pequetita, set back within the footprint of the technical building annexed to Camargo Corrêa’s headquarters.
The original characteristics of the existing overpass, built in 2000, were retained. The wire-mesh guardrail was refurbished, and the opposite ramp near Rua Minas da Prata was preserved, with damaged components replaced and a new automotive paint finish applied. A spur was also added to the deck of the overpass to relocate the elevator and staircase to a small plaza, set back from the avenue.

A new landscape design was proposed, accentuating the small plaza where the staircase and the elevator providing access to the overpass are located, and delineating the new passage between the street and the avenue. New lighting for the overpass deck, the plaza, and the passage will be implemented to emphasize pedestrian scale and safety, while avoiding glare for vehicles traveling beneath the structure.
