Anglo Tamandaré Preparatory School for University Entrance Exams

The program for this School includes two teaching formats: graded and non-graded education. In this proposal for Abril Educação, to be implemented on a narrow plot on Tamandaré Street, two vertical volumes with different heights were proposed. These, elevated from the ground by pilotis, create a covered courtyard that would function as a large arrival hall for students.

In addition to the challenging shape of the plot due to its narrow width, there was also a significant slope from the front to the back of the land, about 12m. Thus, it was decided to divide the program vertically. The floors below the ground level access house parking, staff support areas with cafeteria and locker rooms, and student workshops, in addition to parking. The upper floors house the classrooms. The classrooms for non-graded education occupy the 1st to 5th floors, and after that, the smaller front volume rises alone for a few more floors and is privileged with access to sports courts on the roof of the lower volume.

Finally, for the facade, a glass skin was proposed in the section of the building that houses the ramps and horizontal circulations. For the classrooms, where greater lighting control was necessary, the use of metal panels with specific openings was chosen.
